The Indian language School is located in Lagos, Nigeria. It was established in April 1982, and is a private school run by a Board of Trustees, under the umbrella of the Indian High Commission in the country.
The school was opened in response to the wishes of the Indian community, so that Indian children living in Lagos, while benefiting from exposure to a foreign culture, would not lose touch with their own. Given the ethnic and linguistic diversity of India, it was particularly essential that Indian children who wish to return to India for further studies, learnt the national language and became familiar with the education system followed there.

Our Mission & Character
Along with academic excellence, the school strives to develop in students, moral values, self confidence and a realization of their strengths and abilities.
It works towards sensitizing them to environmental and social concerns and aims at equipping them with intellectual and practical skills, which will prepare them to be effective and responsible custodians of the future. The goal of ILS is to build patriotic Indians who will also be dynamic global citizens.
A factor that contributes to the unique character of ILS is that it is truly representative of the cultural and linguistic diversity of India, as there are students and staff from all parts of India. We capitalize on this advantage by adopting and using curricular and co-curricular activities to develop in pupils a true appreciation of the richness and variety of India, and respect for each other and to keep them abreast of events in India. Being based in Nigeria, students of ILS also have the opportunity of being enriched by a first hand experience of another vibrant nation.
The school has a well qualified faculty of trained teachers who besides providing academic instruction, are also actively involved in guiding students and organizing co-curricular activities.
